São Filipe, Fogo

Tourism is growing in São Filipe, thanks to its combination of historical sites, cultural richness, and natural wonders. Visitors often explore the town’s Museu Municipal, which showcases Fogo’s history and culture, or stroll through the old town, taking in the sights and sounds of local markets. The local economy is based on agriculture, with coffee and wine production playing key roles.

Sao Filipe is famous for its "sobrados," which are colorful, two-story houses with pretty balconies. These houses and cobblestone streets give the town a historic and unique look.

The town is deeply connected to Cape Verdean culture and traditions. One of the most important festivals is the Festas do São Filipe, celebrated every May. This festival honors the town’s patron saint and is marked by horse races, music, dance, and religious processions. The streets come alive with energy, blending the traditional with the modern, making it a highlight for both locals and visitors.
